There was a small chance of rain on Saturday morning. All we got was clouds.
At least we got a good sunrise.
I never get tired of watching sunrise from our house. Others might, but not me.
Here’s one shot from Thursday morning, taken from our bedroom window.
This was slightly later from the driveway as I walked the dogs.
And then even a little later from the bedroom again.
Sunrises have been hazy and red lately, almost certainly because of the lack of rain over northwest Georgia. We haven’t been getting really smoggy air because we still have an occasional front pass through, but the fronts bring nothing but slightly cooler air, no rain.
Last Tuesday when we went downtown for jazz night at a local bar, the moon was close to full. The only camera I had was, of course, the one in my iPhone. This is how the moonrise looked from Broad Street.
The City Clock is at center. I have mentioned that before. The First Baptist Church is on the right. The large brick building in the center is the old, old Post Office, which also housed the federal court at the time. My father worked for many years in that Post Office before the it moved about two blocks away. He retired from what was then the “new” Post Office. The Post Office moved yet again after he retired. I still like the old, old building.
Here’s a sunrise, this time from our driveway, featuring the twisted old maple tree we saved when we cleared the lot.
According to our Atlanta TV station, Saturday night was the coldest night since last April. It was not our coldest night, because of this:
What looks like a vast sea is the top of the temperature inversion from overnight. It got down to around 40F beneath that fog; however, since the winds had died down and it was clear, our low up on the mountain was 51F.
I have mentioned before that we can look out towards the east from our bed. This was what woke us up Tuesday morning.
Fewer clouds Friday morning.
A few minutes later the sun peeked above the horizon.
Leah worries that bare windows will make it feel cold in the bedroom once winter gets here. That’s probably true, but I would hate to miss sunrises like these. In the summer, the sun is well up by the time these photos were shot. Fortunately, the sun rises further towards the north in the summer, so it doesn’t shine directly into the window and our eyes.
Sunrise on Sunday from our bed:
The sun is edging south as the season progresses. It has been rising just out of view to the left of the window from our bed, but it’s now almost visible. We don’t have any window treatments, so it’s going to serve as our alarm clock soon.
We don’t have curtains, but at last we have cabinets. This was our kitchen on Tuesday.
I had already cleared out the boxes that had been sitting on the floor, the bifold door for the master bath, and the shelves you can see just inside our dining/living area.
This was our kitchen on Thursday, after a day of work by cabinet installers.
Zeke is thoughtfully searching for spilled food.
The dishwasher hasn’t been installed. At the time of this photo, neither had the range. The countertop installers are supposed to do a final measurement of the base cabinets soon, and then, after around two weeks, we should have quartz countertops. That will be nice — a completed kitchen. Well, complete except for window trim, base moldings and crown molding.
To bookend things, this was the sunset on Sunday.
This was shot with my iPhone, as usual, cropped down so you can get at least a hint of what the sunset really looked like. And, as usual, it was shot on a city street, the only place we have now where we can actually see the sunset.
