Friday Felines

Sleepy, but not quite sleepy enough to actually lie down.

Comfy?

Comfy?

Lying down would be too much trouble. And that pillow is softer than the sofa.

This was taken not long after we got Smokey’s summer cut. You can see the pink wound on his side. We think it might have been a razor burn. But maybe not.

Grasshoppers are common around here. So are cats. It was inevitable that the two would meet.

She was interested, but not interested enough to do anything.

I wish cats ate grasshoppers.

We have known for a long time that our dogs like sweet treats, but I have always thought that cats didn’t have a sweet tooth. Back in June I offered a giant marshmallow (Each one is a meal!) to Smokey, and he sampled it. But I thought that Smokey was just being polite. And then a few days ago I offered him another one.

He really got into it. He was licking and trying to tear a piece off. He didn’t get much out of it, but with the cat saliva all over it, I didn’t want it. The dogs liked it just fine.

Chloe and Dusty

Chloe and Dusty

Chloe is the mixed tabby cat that showed up with her three kittens shortly after we moved in back in 2005. She has some orange that you can see on her hind quarters, but she has excellent camouflage for the pine bark mulch. One of her kittens looked like a siamese. We were able to find a home for him, but the two orange tabbies, Rusty and Dusty, are still with us. Here Dusty, the pale male, is trying to blend in with some of the native stone we use for landscaping. He’s pretty skittish, but sometimes he lies so quietly that you can walk right by him without even seeing him.

Friday Felines

Isn’t there a story that if you dip someone’s hand in water while they’re sleeping, they will pee? We couldn’t prove the story this time because Zoe’s front paw didn’t actually touch the water left over from watering a fern. But it was close. Zeke is making sure the fox doesn’t come around unannounced.
