It rained almost all day and part of the night on Monday. By Tuesday morning we had about four and a quarter inches, which we desperately needed. Our newly-sprouted grass appreciated it, as did the moss and lichen on a bank along Fouche Gap Road.
I believe the vine cross the image from the bottom left is Virginia creeper.
Despite the amount of rain, the ditches along the road were not flowing heavily. I hope that’s because a lot of the rain soaked in.
I’ll see heavy rains reported down at the little cabin, but when I can visit soon after, the lake shows no sign of being recharged. My hope is that the ground took it all in and it is nourishing the plants and critters. (Also, that the weather report wasn’t wrong.)
Really glad you got that much-needed rain.
Paul — I was a little surprised that there was so little runoff here. The way it usually works is that the rain is so heavy that it all runs off very quickly, washing away our yard and filling the ditches, or that it rains so lightly that there is no runoff at all. Four and a quarter inches in less than 24 hours is a lot of rain, but I saw no evidence of really heavy runoff, including in our newly-planted grass. So I have to assume it soaked in. I’m also a little surprised that your lake doesn’t fill, since even with heavy runoff, the area that drains into your lake should, well, drain into your lake. Like you, I have to assume it’s soaking in.
Robin — We were glad to have the rain, and it seems that it will continue for several days.
