Sunsets and sopapillas

As I mentioned in a previous post, Wednesday was my birthday. We had huevos rancheros and, as usual, when Leah told them it was my birthday, they brought out a birthday sopapilla.

It was rather large, although that’s hard to tell from the photo. Leah had just a little taste, so I had to eat the rest of it. Poor me.

Later on Wednesday evening as we drove home down Huffaker Road, nature gave us another sunset. As usual, we could see it only in little patches. This was the best shot I could get.

The colored clouds stretched halfway around the horizon, but we couldn’t see all of it at once at any one place.

If we look off to the east from our new house, we can see Mount Alto, from which, if you look to the west, you can see Lavender Mountain and our house. And also the sunset. I told Leah we should finish our new house, sell it and then build on Mount Alto. She thought that was pretty funny.

We celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary tonight. It was not much of a celebration. We exchanged cards in the morning, and for at least the second time, we got each other the exact, same card. I had to (or got to) do a few hours of work for the company I used to work for, which, thank goodness, I could do right here at home. Then we went out to eat for dinner. Sunset on the way home was hidden behind thick, gray clouds, so no photos of that.

I’m not sure how many people read this poor, little blog, but I wanted to thank anyone who does. When I read the blogs that I read every day (I hope if any of their authors are reading this, they know that I do read them), even though I don’t really know any of you all, I feel like it’s a conversation between good neighbors leaning on our common fence. I appreciate comments, since otherwise it can feel like shouting into an empty stadium, and I try to reply to every one. Sometimes I miss a comment, but rest assured, I read them all.

  1. I love knowing that you and Leah gave each other the same cards. True love!
Beautiful sunset there. I had a good laugh thinking about your selling your not-yet-moved-into house to build another one. Hah! I understand the desire to see as far as you can. Lately it’s been so gray here, I forgot all about the full moon and glimpses of stars and Mars.
I think Facebook has really cut into blogging. I prefer blogging, but I understand the immediacy of Facebook. A lot of bloggers have quit altogether. I can’t read Roundrock Journal anymore, my browser stops me with a big warning sign. I think it is important to keep blogging and commenting. It makes the world a little smallet and much cozier.

  2. Happy anniversary. The dessert picture virtually got my taste buds going, making me crave bananas foster for some reason.

Thank you for blogging. I do enjoy what you write, and, though I don’t read every day, I catch up a time or two during the week. It’s true that Facebook is seductive. What’s worse is that one short entry leads, like a potato chip, to another, then another.

This must be the wettest and chilliest May on record here. Right now the sun is shining after yet another gray, drizzly day. We might even have a lovely sunset. It would be one of only a few visible so far this month.

Robin mentioned Roundrock Journal, which I was introduced to through your blog roll. I’ve meant to ask if anyone here can still access it. My live-in tech suggested I might try getting it through some finagling with Linux. Or, I suppose, I could get a “burner” computer, binge read the blog, then toss the infected machine in the trash. (Smile)

  3. Robin — I like the longer form of blogging, both as a writer and as a reader. I guess I miss stuff by not participating in Facebook.

Minnie — Looking at the sopapilla makes me kind of hungry, too.

I haven’t been posting every day, which I would like to do ideally, but I just can’t manage it. I appreciate your reading.

I am able to get to Roundrock Journal with my Mac laptop, which I use to write my blog posts, and with my iPhone, but not with my Mac desktop. The desktop gives me a virus warning. I’m sure Pablo knows about the problem, but I commented on one of his recent posts and mentioned it. I hope he can get it straightened out soon. So far I haven’t had any problems with viruses as a result of visiting RRJ, but I wouldn’t necessarily encourage anyone else to risk it.
