We had some nice sunrises in the first two weeks of February, but I haven’t gotten around to posting them.
This was February 1.
You can see the plume from the Euharlee power plant on the horizon. I don’t remember the temperature that day, but on a cold winter night there will typically be a fairly large electric power demand, so the plants will work hard.
This was February 5.
This is actually a vertical panorama. I couldn’t quite get everything I wanted, so I (actually, Photoshop Elements) stitched two shots together.
This is from February 13.
Since the sun is rising earlier these days, I don’t get out on the deck often enough to catch the sun right at the horizon. I usually see a good sunrise when I’m walking the dogs around the house first thing in the morning. The sunrise changes so quickly that I usually can’t get back inside, grab the camera and get out on the deck in time to get the most dramatic shot. That’s why the sun is so high in the sky in these pictures.
Really nice sunrises there. I think I see a hint of a corona in the second pic, and a bit of a 22 degree halo in the third. Subtle and beautiful.
Ah, the life of a retiree. Rising late, taking it easy! Are you supposed to get an ice storm tonight?
Robin — It’s not too unusual to get some fairly decent displays in those conditions. The hardest thing is capturing them with the camera (I almost said “on film” … what’s film?)
Scott — Ha! I could get used to this. In fact, I already am. We have had a cold rain most of the day. It’s just about as cold as it can rain and still be rain. It’s not supposed to drop below freezing until early Tuesday morning, and the rain should have ended by then, so we won’t get an ice storm. We may get icy patches on the roads, and I plan to be careful when I take the dogs out on the elevated walk from the front door in the morning.
