Friday morning was just about as close to a perfect morning as we get around here. It was cool with a hint of humidity. It must have been fairly cloudy overnight, because there wasn’t much dew. The crows were calling and some other bird, unidentifiable by me, was singing in the woods as I took the dogs outside. A few crickets were still chirping. I looked at the sunrise to the east and thought for a moment about going back inside for my camera. But the dogs needed their walk.
Our first walk is short, just a little constitutional before breakfast, but by the time we got back inside, a lot of the drama was gone.
It was still pretty, but the deeper colors had faded, and the sky was lighter. This image looks more dramatic than the real thing. It’s surprising how quickly a sunrise or sunset changes.
Not much else changed over the day, but it was raining by early Saturday morning. This is from our deck, looking towards the rising sun. It’s there, behind the fog and rain.
We were glad to see this rain. It was the first significant rain this month. It rained all day, and by the time it ended, we had about an inch and a third. But dogs still need their walks, rain or not. Both dogs have raincoats, but Lucy refuses to relieve herself when she’s wearing hers, so she has to rush around getting wet while she takes care of her business.
Zeke doesn’t care for his raincoat either, but he tolerates it.
Just barely.
The rain was great. We got ours starting yesterday Saturday around 3pm. Very heavy for half an hour – we got the same amount you did. Like you, we’d had virtually no rain since Aug 21 (0.02″). Happy Fall Equinox!
Mark: I wonder if the raincoats are more for the human companion(s) than for the dogs; if the dogs wear a raincoat, then you don’t have to dry them off after a walk! Our rain arrived precisely at 8 p.m. on Saturday evening, just as the forecasters had predicted. Though they called for 1/2 – 1 inch, we didn’t get that much; it rained most of the night, but it was gentle and soaking rather than a torrent.
Wayne, our rain was just what we needed. There were a couple of short periods of heavy rain, but mostly it was fairly gentle rain spread out over the entire day.
Scott, the raincoats are for our convenience, for exactly the reason you say. The dogs are not really eager to go out into heavy rain, but if it’s raining like it did most of the day on Saturday, they don’t care. We still have to dry their feet even when they wear their raincoats, but that’ss a lot easier than trying to dry their entire body. Zeke is trained so well that he stops on the rug at the front door, sits down and raises his right foot for me to start drying.
It rained here too. An unusual thing for this time of the year, and it was a bit more than an inch. It was wonderful, but it got crazy cold too. I think there was a 30 degree temp difference between Thursday’s high and Saturday’s high. Forty-two degrees here on Sunday morning. That’s downright chilly.
Zeke looks adorable in his raincoat. I think his look says, “Oh, the things I do for you.”
Whoops, forgot to write how beautiful that sunrise is. We haven’t seen that much color here in months. Gorgeous.
Robin Andrea, it hasn’t been that cold here, but it was in the upper 50s with a fairly strong wind this morning. I walked the dogs down the mountain, and it was really nice. It was cool, the sky was a deep blue and the trees are still green. I wondered why I would ever want to leave this place. But then by the time I got back up to the top of the mountain, I was sweaty, and I remembered.
Zeke is a good dog. He has his doggy faults, but don’t we all.
